The Blue Sunny City: Photos of Jodhpur, India

The Blue City of Jodhpur, India
Jodhpur is the second largest city in Rajasthan.  It has two nick names; Sun CIty and the Blue City.  As the first name describes, Jodhpur is located in the arid portion of northern India, rarely a day goes by with out the sun shining.  The Blue City is in reference to the indigo washed buildings. The Blue City of Jodhpur, India
We heard several explanations for coloring the buildings blue ranging from a sign of family lineage to simply good luck.  This city is visually stunning, definitely one where you'll want a camera ready to fire at all times. Mehrangarh Fort. Jodhpur, India Mehrangarh Fort. Jodhpur, India
The most famous attraction of Jodhpur is the Mehrangarh Fort.  This fort is situated on a towering bluff over looking the sea of blue buildings.  Woman Sweeping. Mehrangarh Fort. Jodhpur, India

The Mehrangarh Fort is one of the largest in India.  It has many beautiful courtyards, hallways, rooms, intricate carvings and paintings.  The beautiful doors alone are worth a trip here. Fortified door at the Mehrangarh Fort. Jodhpur, India
A portion of the fort is a museum full of beautiful artifacts.  The whole complex is still run by the original families of the fort.  All of them wear traditional clothing and the men have what we decided as the world's coolest facial hair.   Guard in the Mehrangarh Fort. Jodhpur, India
A walk in the park in Jodhpur is a rainbow of colors.  Here we were greeted by many people from surrounding villages making a trip into the city.  The colors are really magical.  IMG_8301
Our last stop in Jodhpur was out to a ancient mausoleum off the beaten path a bit.  A rickshaw driver that we'd been using the entire week took us out there as a recommendation.  It was way out there, but worth the trip.  We literally had the whole place to ourselves, not another person around.  I wish I could tell you the name of this place, but there were no signs in English.  If you ever go to Jodhpur, ask around and go out here, it's really a cool place.  a mausoleum outside Jodhpur, India a mausoleum outside Jodhpur, India
