Our new crush… Sydney, Australia

For our last stop on our around the journey, Beau and I decided to visit two people that became close friends during our first week of the big trip.  We felt Sydney was a wonderful way to complete the circle and edge us back into the western world… and it was!  We are now completely in love with Sydney.  We might be totally biased since we had wonderful hosts showing us all the fun and stylish parts of the city but I think its because Sydney is just that cool. Sydney is filled with hip little areas overflowing with shops and cafes.  One of our favorites, Newtown has a great mix of funky original design clothing boutiques, retro modern antique stores, and global chic decor shops.  We also loved walking the back lanes off Oxford Street to see great architecture and check more great boutiques.  In several of the areas, we fell in love with the most enchanting Victorian Terrace historical homes (see picture below). A majority of the areas with this style of architecture have been remodeled but in Newtown there seem to still be a few good finds that were ripe for the picking.  My designer mind was spinning on how I could convince Beau to move here and renovate a home…but then reality hit.  Buying house in Sydney would cost a lot and not to mention included some visa issues…. Well a girl can dream. We also visited Quay Circle.  What is a visit to Australia without seeing the Sydney Opera house?  It’s a must see, and I was not disappointed.  The other great part of visiting the Opera house is across the harbor you will find an abundance of incredible restaurants that have been designed to complement their amazing menus. Last but not least, we had to get a view of Bondi Beach that seems to have a gnarly rip tide in every episode of Bondi Rescue.  Our Aussie friends didn’t seem to be as familiar with the show but we caught them up fast.  The show is a hit in most SE Asia countries.  Unfortunately, it was very cold and windy the day we visited but it did give us a chance to enjoy Icebergs and watch the dedicated surfers hit the water.

I would have to say Sydney was a wonderful last stop on our big trip. It gave us a chance to reflect and decide that we are not ready to stop traveling.  SOOOO… we are headed home but we are going to continue our travel lifestyle.  We have decide to go back out soon with many more posts to come.  We will tell you more in our next post!

Thank you P & S for being outstanding hosts and great friends.  We had an awesome time!

Aww this post makes me homesick! Newtown is one of my favourite Sydney haunts too – you could eat at a different restaurant every day for months without getting bored or visiting the same one twice!
Looking forward to hearing how you’ll be continuing the travelling lifestyle!

pics look amazing. hope to go to Australia in the Fall. What’s the name of the bar with the amazing stick-like umbrella overtop? Is it the Ocean Room?

  6. Hi Trip Styler!
Yes, the stick-like structure that makes an umbrella effect is at the Ocean Room. It is a really nice bar/restaurant and the staff is really nice there too! That whole area called the Quay has several bars with great designs. You should definitely check it out. Have fun in OZ!

  7. Hi Sonya!
Travel Crushes?…. huh? I guess we have several different crushes. Favorite beach – El Nido, Palawan Philippines. Favorite City – Tokyo or Sydney…or Buenos Aires…Bangkok. Favorite adventure country – Nicaragua. Favorite Train Ride – Trans-Mongolian Rail. Favorite Animal Experience – Rwanda Gorrillas. Favorite country to photograph – India. Favorite place to chill – Thailand or Malawi (also filled with really nice people). I know that is a lot but I hope that answers your question in some manner. 😉 Thank you for following us!
