A little BBQ competition in Lockhart, Texas (Part 1 or 2)

With a population of 14,267 +/-, it is surprising to find 4 amazing barbecue restaurants in the little town of Lockhart, Texas.  But if you know anything about Texas, then you know that BBQ is a religion.  My mom, sister, niece and I decided we need to make a stop in Lockhart on our road trip to sample some of the famous BBQ.  We started our morning off skipping breakfast and getting straight on the road.  We knew we would need the extra space in our bellies for all the good BBQ!Our first stop was Black’s Barbecue.  Black’s Barbecue is known as “Texas’ oldest and best major barbecue restaurant continuously owned by the same family”.  As soon as we approached Black’s and saw happy big belly men walking away, my heart skipped a beat.  Black’s is a perfect BBQ place from the outside to the inside.  The staff at Black’s is also wonderful and the friendliest in Lockhart! As for the food… wow!  We had planned on just sharing one or two plates of BBQ but we each ended getting our own.  Sharing is overrated some times.  We all agreed that Black’s has the best sausage and sides in Lockhart.  They also have some darn good brisket.  The peach cobbler was so good that I told the cook I could eat a bucket of it and really could!  We will definitely be stopping at Black’s again on our next trip to Texas.  Kreuz and Smitty’s BBQ in the next post!
